What’s Fresh in Teen Services?

Hey, it’s Jason, Young Adult Librarian. I started at Livingston Public Library on June 1st. So, how did I spend my summer?

I’ve spent a huge amount of time coordinating volunteers. I built a volunteering system from the ground up. We had over 100 applicants, and 63 of those went on to actively volunteer with us this summer.

Another big project I did was managing the Young Adult collection. This included ordering many new “fresh” materials. Most importantly, I reorganized the collection.

Manga has been expanded to the whole shelving unit near the water fountain. Graphic novels have replaced the reading list/classics collection on the long shelf, and the reading list books are now where the audiobooks used to be (on the opposite side of the video games). Lastly, audiobooks now sit at the end of the nonfiction collection.

I have also made mini “new” sections at the beginning of Graphic Novels and Nonfiction so that you may find new books faster and easier.

Finally, our manga art contest submissions are on display over the manga shelving unit. Come to the Teen Desk to vote on your favorite!

As always, staff are happy to answer any directional questions you may have (just save the hard questions for another member of the youth services team!).
