Upcoming February Lectures

February is the perfect month to attend a lecture at the Livingston Public Library! Mark your calendars for these great lectures coming your way this month!

VIRTUAL Sammy Davis Jr: “The Ultimate Mystery is One’s Own Self”

Monday, February 7 at 7pm | This event will take place on Zoom. REGISTER HERE.

In this multimedia talk, entertainment historian John Kenrick will use exciting performance clips and fascinating behind the scenes stories to show us how Davis overcame bigotry to become a celebrated show business legend.

IN-PERSON Memoir Writing Workshop

Wednesday, February 23 at 7pm | This event will take place in-person.

Are you an aspiring writer interested in writing your own memoir? If so, the Livingston Public Library invites you to join us for a Memoir Writing Workshop, taught by writer Barbara Wornton. This workshop will go over the basics of storytelling as well as writing advice from experts and Wornton’s own experiences.  This workshop will also include the ability to free-write in short writing activities which will help put the theories covered in the workshop into practice! The workshop will conclude with a Q&A.

VIRTUAL Rock & Roll: From the Blues to the British Invasion

Monday, February 28 at 7pm | This event will take place on Zoom. Register HERE.

This presentation by music educator Paul Groom tracks the inspirational story of music that started in the Mississippi Delta with black performers based on the Blues, Gospel and Doo Wop such as Wynonie Harris, Goree Carter, Jackie Brenston and Muddy Waters, and was transformed by an association of racially different artists over a few years, into the dominant form of popular music in the USA.

We hope to see you at one of these lectures this month! Be sure to visit the Library’s event calendar to see all the other wonderful events we have planned for February including crafts, book clubs, Senior Happening, and more!

-Jessica, Interim Head of Adult Services & Acquisitions
