Upcoming April Virtual Lectures

Learn something new this spring! The Livingston Public Library is the place to learn something new.  From books, digital resources, and virtual lectures, there’s something for every type of learner.  Here’s a sneak peak of the virtual lectures you can look forward to during the month of April!

Note: Virtual lectures take place on Zoom.  Registration is required and can be done so through the Library’s event calendar.  Information on how to access the event will be emailed to registered attendees the day before the program is to take place. 

Introduction to Madhubani Folk Painting from India | Monday, April 5 @ 7pm 

Discover the one of a kind, colorful world of Mithila or Madhubani painting,  a style of folk art form practiced by millions of women in the Mithila region of Bihar, India since ancient times, from a passionate practitioner of the art. This program will be presented by Nupur Nishith, a USA based artist, born in Madhubani district of Mithila region in India, who continues to paint in this tradition on a variety of surfaces.

Dark Queens: Dark Beauties for Your Gardens | Wednesday, April 7 @ 11am

Join garden historian Lesly Parness as she discusses black hued plants, including annuals, perennials, vines, trees and shrubs, and how they can be used for maximum impact in your garden landscape.

Selling on eBay | Monday, April 12 @ 7pm 

Rick Feingold, education specialist trained by eBay, will discuss how the site works, how you can learn the value of items you wish to sell, how you can use the site to make income, and more!

Be a Friend to the Earth: Reduce Food Waste at Home! | Wednesday, April 14 @ 7pm

In collaboration with The Department of Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS), a part of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, this program will discuss simple ways that we can reduce the food waste in our homes everyday. 

A New Light on Tiffany | Monday, April 19 @ 7pm 

Explore the New-York Historical Society’s collection of Tiffany lamps—one of the world’s largest and most encyclopedic—and the intricate techniques that created them with this interactive virtual presentation by a museum docent.

Sustainable Living: It’s Easier Than You Think! | Wednesday, April 21 @ 11am

Dr. Amy Rowe, Rutgers Cooperative Extension’s  Natural Resources Agent for Essex and Passaic Counties, will discuss ways we can reduce our carbon footprints and lessen our  impacts on the environment.

Garden Gems of the Garden State | Monday, April 26 @ 7pm 

Master Gardener Mary Jo Sichak  will touch on the history and highlights of various gardens and arboretums in New Jersey, including special collections they feature and the best times to visit.

Spring Fling Florals | Wednesday, April 28 @ 11am

In this workshop, radio celebrity Betsy Karetnick will teach us what we can do with tulips, hyacinths, and pussy willows that can be bought from the market or picked from the garden.
