For our next monthly movie, we’ll be showing Darren Aronofksy’s film The Whale— and starting this month, we’re adding matinee screenings in addition to our usual Tuesday Night Movie!
Adapted from the play of the same name by MacArthur Fellowship recipient Samuel D. Hunter, the film is about a reclusive, morbidly obese English teacher (Brendan Fraser) struggling to reconnect with his teenage daughter (Sadie Sink).
Earlier this week, star Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor Oscar for his career-reviving performance. The film also won the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, while co-star Hong Chau was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Richard Roeper of The Chicago Sun-Times declared The Whale the best film of 2022, calling it an “empathetic, haunting, beautiful, heartbreakingly moving story of a broken man.” And Robbie Collin of The Telegraph wrote in his five-star review that “Fraser seals his comeback in a sensational film of rare compassion.”
The film will play on the big screen in our Program Room on Tuesday, March 21 starting at 6:30 PM, and again on Thursday, March 23 starting at 2 PM.
The film is rated R, and runs 2 hours. It will be screened with English subtitles for the hard of hearing.
This screening is free and open to all, with no registration required.
