The Dickens Nobody Knows

Charles Dickens may just be one of the greatest writers of outstanding literary reputation.  However, there is a lot that we don’t know about this great writer, which leaves readers with an incomplete portrait of who Dickens was.

The Livingston Public Library invites you to join us on Sunday, December 8 at 2pm for a lecture “The Dickens Nobody Knows” presented by Dr. Engel.  Dr. Engel’s lecture will use biography, analysis, and humor, to reveal Dickens as an author whose personal life was far more interesting than the immortal characters within his novels.

Dr. Engel has written ten books published in England, Japan, Turkey, and the United States.  His mini-lecture series on Charles Dickens ran on PBS television stations around the country, and his articles have appeared in numerous newspapers and national magazines including Newsweek. Dr. Engel has lectured not only throughout the United States but also on all of ten continents including Antarctica!  Four plays which Dr. Engel has written have been produced during the last ten years, and in 2009, he was inducted into the Royal Society of Arts in England for his academic work and service in promoting Charles Dickens.

This is a lecture you won’t want to miss!  For more information, check out our events calendar, here.

Looking to read some of Dickens’ work?  Check out the following titles!

There are also a whole bunch of Charles Dickens eBooks and audiobooks from our Overdrive-Libby eLibrary, but if you don’t see quite what you are looking for, the Livingston Library also offers you access to Hoopla. Here you can not only borrow eBooks and audiobooks but also the television series Dickens!
