Take Home Craft: Let Freedom Ring!

“Let Freedom Ring!” when you make your own Liberty Bell.  This week’s Take & Make craft celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a Liberty Bell, honoring the National Bell Ringing Ceremony held each year in Philadelphia to officially inaugurate the holiday. Stop by the Children’s Desk this week to pick up the craft, recommended for ages 2-5, while supplies last.

Here are a few books we recommend to learn more about Dr. King and his legacy:

A Place to Land, by Barry Wittenstein

As Good As Anybody: Martin Luther King and Abraham Joshua Heschel’s Amazing March Towards Freedom, by Richard Michelson

Dream March, by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson

I Am Martin Luther King, Jr., by Brad Meltzer

I’ve Seen the Promised Land: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by Walter Dean Myers

Little People, Big Dreams: Martin Luther King, Jr., by María Isabel Sánchez Vegara

Love Will See You Through: Martin Luther King Jr.’s Six Guiding Beliefs, by Angela Farris Watkins

March On! The Day My Brother Martin Changed the World, by Christine King Farris

Martin’s Big Words: The Life of Martin Luther King, Jr., by Doreen Rappaport

Racial Justice in America: Voting Rights, by Kevin P. Winn

Happy reading!
