Message from the Director

Livingston Library Community,

Do you enjoy popular fiction titles and discussing them with other readers? If this sounds like you, we warmly invite you to join us on Zoom Wednesday, July 24th, at 7 p.m. for our Bookish Vibes Book Club. Author Dolen Perkins Valdez will be discussing her novel Take My Hand.

“Take My Hand” is a historical fiction novel set in 1970s Alabama that follows the character of Civil Townsend, a nurse who uncovers a shocking government sterilization program targeting young girls. Inspired by the true story of the Relf Sisters, the novel explores themes of systemic racism, medical ethics, and the fight for justice.

Dolen will join the first half of the book club from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for an open discussion with readers. This is a great opportunity to ask Dolen questions about the novel, the writing process, and more. The book club will continue from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. with lively discussion amongst book club members.

Registration is required for this event, and those registered will receive an email with the Zoom information the day before the book club’s start. Copies of the novel are also available for checkout at the Patron Services Desk.

By joining our book club, you’ll join a vibrant community of readers. You can also explore future book clubs on the Library’s event calendar. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director
