Children and their caregivers learned about the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Jade Rabbit who lives with Chang’e on the moon during the Chinese English Bilingual Storytime. Librarians Hongmei and Amanda read a story about a rabbit family preparing to celebrate the holiday. The children had a chance to bend and stretch as they acted out “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”’ and learned the words to the song in Chinese. Hongmei shared a traditional song “Gentle Little Bunny ” that she learned as a child. Many of the grandparents and parents were familiar with the song and sang along as Hongmei taught the children the words to the song and Amanda told them the words in English. Amanda and Hongmei encouraged the children to look at the moon on Friday September 29th when it will be big and full to see if they can see the Jade Rabbit and Chang’Er there.
