Unearth a Story
Grades 5 and under (Fall 2026)
Monday, June 22nd through Monday, August 10th
Kids receive an Unearth a Story Activity Booklet. Choose your activities, fill out the Booklet, then bring it to the library to receive prizes. Completed pages earn you Grand Prize Drawing Tickets, for a chance to win more prizes!
Registration is NOT required!
Teens entering grades 6 through 12 this Fall should visit the Teen Summer Learning Challenge webpage.
Activity Booklet: Grades 5 and under
To receive your Activity Booklet:
- Visit the Youth Services Desk during the library’s operating hours.
- View or print a copy of the Activity Booklet.
- The Activity Booklet is best printed on 11×17 in. paper.
- If you don’t have on 11×17 in. paper, print on standard 8.5×11 in. paper; the text will just be a little smaller.

DINO DIGGERS – PALEONTOLOGY
- Attend the program New Jersey Fossil Finds with Dr. Dana (grades K-5).
- Take a virtual tour of the National Museum of Natural History.
- Learn about a plant that dinosaurs ate.
- Prehistoric plants: How to grow a dinosaur garden (from the Natural History Museum)

- Plant evolution chart
- Draw a picture of a dinosaur that lived in the Triassic/Jurassic/Cretaceous Period.

- Learn about renewable energy.

- Identify rocks you find as sedimentary, metamorphic, or igneous. Library sections starting at J 551 and J 552.

- Learn about the earth using an Orboot globe. Check one out at the Youth Services Desk or the Library of Things.
- Build a birdhouse. (Birds are technically dinosaurs!)
- Here’s an easy birdhouse you can make.
- With a trusted adult, explore Google Earth.
- Attend the program Archaeology Experiences with Dr. Heinrich (Grades K-5).
- With a trusted adult, play an archaeology game online through the American Museum of Natural History.
- With a trusted adult, take a virtual field trip to the Archaearium Museum in Jamestown, VA.
- With a trusted adult, watch a video from PBS about archaeology.
- Start to learn a new language with Mango languages (offered through the library).
- Learn about New Jersey’s state dinosaur, mineral, dog, animal, bird, and flower.
- Take a virtual tour of a national park.
- Learn about the history of Livingston and the Livingston Library on our website.
- Contribute to our Community Cookbook.
- Ask about our Museum Pass Program.
