The Youth Services Department is excited to announce a special January session of one of our favorite Summer programs, Book Buddies!
In this program, young readers in grades Kindergarten and up are paired one on one with trained Teen Buddies to practice reading, help to strengthen their reading confidence and increase their sight word vocabulary. Teens are taught to target the child’s individual learning style to provide customized reading strategies, provide phonetic clues, and use positive reinforcement to create a relaxed, and encouraging reading experience.
Two teen volunteers suggested that we offer this reading program beyond the Summer this year. They had both participated in Book Buddies when they were younger and reflected on how their experience with Book Buddies helped foster their love of reading and their love of the Livingston Library. Now that they are teens, they wanted to offer the same experience to younger readers and give back to the library community.
Book Buddies will meet on Tuesday, January 14th, 4-4:45 pm. Registration is not required, emerging readers in grades Kindergarten and up can use their Livingston Library Card to pick up tickets at the Youth Services Desk 30 minutes before the program begins.
