Pruning 101: A Library Program & Booklist

pruning 101

Pruning is the practice of selectively removing specific parts of a tree or shrub, such as buds, branches, or roots. Proper pruning ensures that your shrubs and trees stay healthy and attractive and is an essential, though often overlooked part of good gardening practice.

Do you wonder what kind of pruning you should do for your plants-specifically deadhead, dead leaf or prune- and at what time of the year?

On Wednesday March 27 at 11am, join us for a talk on pruning entitled Deadhead, Dead Leaf, or Prune: What Should I Be Doing? presented by Master Gardener Chris Kozar. The talk will focus on what to do with the foliage of a plant and give you information on ways to maximize the health and longevity of it.  Chris will discuss the steps you should take in every season to achieve plant health, even during dormancy.  Specific information will be shared about deadheading, dead leafing or pruning for individual annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees.  A useful handout will be shared.

Chris Kozar is an experienced gardener, a certified master gardener since 2020, and a retired teacher of 30 years of mostly middle schoolers.  No registration is required to attend this program.

The following books available to borrow  in the Livingston Library collection offer advice and instruction on proper pruning techniques.
