July 20, 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the first humans landing on the moon.IMG_4361.jpg

Kennedy famously challenged the nation in 1961 to land a man on the moon by the end of that decade. Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took the first steps on the lunar surface on July 20, 1969 as part of NASA’s Apollo 11 lunar mission.

Check out the display in the Library that commemorates this momentous occasion from five decades ago. Here are some resources that will help you celebrate or learn more about this milestone:

From director Todd Douglas Miller comes a cinematic event 50 years in the making. Crafted from a newly discovered trove of 65mm footage, and more than 11,000 hours of uncatalogued audio recordings, the film takes viewers straight to the heart of NASA₂s most celebrated mission, the one that first put men on the moon, and forever made Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin into household names.
