From May 1st to the 15th, the Livingston Public Library is showcasing artwork from students at the Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School, in Livingston, New Jersey.
Statement from art teacher Debbie Buechler:
Students chose what they each wanted to put on display from work they did in class this year. All art students take art class as an elective, and the class meets daily for a semester. We have worked in graphite, charcoal, oil pastels, soft pastels, acrylic paint, clay, ink, watercolors and glass.
Some of our students have won awards during this school year. 3 students have had work on an exhibit at the NJPAC in Newark. 3 students have had work at the art show located at the Essex County Courthouse. One of our students was “artist of the week” on the Artsonia website and was featured in the West Essex Tribune.
Taking art classes gives teenagers an outlet for their creativity during their busy day and relaxing atmosphere to work in. They are proud of their accomplishments, and many of them never took an art class before this year. Our offerings are in studio art at each grade level (grades 9 -12) as well as a class in painting and drawing, a ceramics course and AP Drawing, AP 2 D Design or AP 3 D Design. Some students are working with Seton Hall University to receive college credit for their course work. Hopefully you will enjoy seeing what we have done, and we look forward to sharing our student work in the future as well.
