Movie of the Month: PAST LIVES

movie of the month jan 2024

This month, we’re hosting two matinee screenings of Celine Song’s Past Lives on the big screen in our program room: Thursday, January 25th at 2 PM, and Saturday, January 27th at 1:30 PM.

In the film, Nora (Greta Lee) and Hae Sung (Teo Yoo), two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrested apart after Nora’s family emigrates from South Korea. Twenty years later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront notions of love and destiny.

One of the most critically acclaimed films of 2023, Past Lives was named one of the year’s 10 best films by the National Board of Review, and was named the year’s best film by the National Society of Film Critics. It was also nominated for five Independent Spirit Awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Lead Performance (both Greta Lee and Teo Yoo). And it will likely receive at least a few major Academy Award nominations when those are announced next week.

These screenings are free and open to all, with no registration required.

The film is rated PG-13, and runs 1 hour, 45 minutes. It will be screened with English subtitles for the hard of hearing.

Free popcorn will be served (while supplies last).

Doors will open 30 minutes before showtime.
