Message from the Director: Yes! It’s Time for Food For Fines

I am proud to announce our 4th Annual Food for Fines Week!  This is a chance to get your library card in good standing, while helping out our fellow Livingston community members.  From September 22rd to 29th, the Library will be accepting non-perishable packaged food items in place of fines and donating them to Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors, LNHN. (Sorry, lost item fees are not eligible.)

Food for Fines is a win-win project and one of my favorite weeks of the year.  We FoodForFinesencourage town residents to borrow freely from the Library and we benefit the hungry in our own community at the same time.  Last year, we cleared fines from 172 individual library card accounts for a total of $2,609.65 and were able to give Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors 848 food items to help our community members.

Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors (LNHN), formed in 2016, mission is committed to providing short term, in kind support for Livingston residents struggling with unexpected hardship.  LNHN has helped to procure meals, produce, non-perishables, as well as grocery store gift cards and clothing.  The group especially needs cans of tuna, beans, vegetables and fruit, jars of peanut butter, pasta sauces, baby food, jelly, jam, and condiments, and packages of breakfast cereal, dried beans, pasta, white or brown rice,  macaroni & cheese, and powdered milk.  For more information please contact the Library at (973) 992-4600.
