Message From the Director: Summer Reading 2022

Livingston Library Community,

We discovered “Oceans of Possibilities” during our 2022 Summer Reading Program. During this summer long program, children, teens, and adults read books, won some really cool prizes, participated in Library events, and gave back to the community.

We had a total of 365 readers participate in our Children’s Summer Reading Program. They logged 156,560 minutes of reading throughout the summer! Children completed 2,259 Kindness Activities and won 5,048 badges!

Children also enjoyed ocean themed events this summer such as “Camp Ocean” presented by The Traveling Lantern Theater Company.

129 readers participated in our Teen Summer Reading Program. They logged 77,524 minutes of reading throughout the summer and wrote 159 book reviews! We also had 64 teen volunteers give back to the community this summer, putting in 569.75 volunteer hours!

100 adults participated in our Adult Summer Reading Program, breaking last year’s record of 96 participants!  Adults read a total of 324 books and wrote 40 letters to be sent to Seniors in need of a smile for the organization Letters Against Isolation. 18 participants won prizes in our weekly raffles and 2 participants won the grand prize drawing of a brand new Kindle!

Adults also enjoyed ocean themed events such as “Shore to Please: Highlights of the Jersey Shore” and the adult art workshops “Ocean Treasures Resin Art Project,” “Create an Oceanscape Painting,” and “Paint a Watercolor Seascape.”

We can’t wait for next summer’s Summer Reading program! In the meantime, we have many books to satisfy fall, winter, and spring readers of all ages here at the Library.

Hope to see you soon!

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director

  1. I now have an important doctor appointment Friday and have registered for Let’s Talk About Books. Can it be watched after? I thought I heard that. If so how?

    1. Hi Linda, Unfortunately Let’ Talk about Books cannot be watched after the fact, as we do not record our book clubs. We hope to see you at the October meeting! -Jessica, Head of Adult Services & Acquisitions
