Message From the Director: Stories From NJ Diners

“To live in New Jersey and not love diners must be like living in Hawaii and not swimming, or living in Vermont and hating snow.” – Michael Gabriele

Livingston Library Community,

Is there anything more “Jersey” than a New Jersey diner? If you love diner food and stories, the Livingston Public Library is excited to invite you to join us on Monday, May 23rd at 7pm for Stories From NJ Diners presented by local author Michael Gabriele.

During this talk, Michael will be sharing stories such as: memories of late-night eats during Wildwood’s wild rock-and-roll days of the 1950s, a story an entrepreneur who traveled eight-thousand miles from India to open a diner in the Pine Barrens, first-person remembrances from Newark’s Weequahic Diner, and an impromptu midnight wedding ceremony held in an Elizabeth lunch wagon in 1906.

Michael Gabriele is  the author of Stories from New Jersey Diners published in 2019 by History Press, as well as The Golden Age of Bicycle Racing in New Jersey, The History of Diners in New Jersey, and New Jersey Folk Revival Music—History and Tradition.

Registration is not required for this event, and all those who enjoy Jersey diners or have a favorite diner are welcome to attend.

We hope to see you there!

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director
