Message from the Director: Learn All About Steel, Libraries, and Andrew Carnegie

amy intro graphic

“A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people. It is a never failing spring in the desert.” – Andrew Carnegie

Livingston Library Community,

September is National Library Card Sign Up Month! This month, in addition to utilizing all of the great services your library card provides you, we invite you to join us on Monday, September 11th at 7pm for the lecture, “Andrew Carnegie: From Steel to the Building of Libraries.”

Between 1886 and 1919, Andrew Carnegie donated more than $40,000,000 to the building of 1,689 libraries for both small and large communities across the country. During this lecture, we will explore how Carnegie gave away more than 90% of his fortune accumulated through railroad and steel earnings becoming a major philanthropist. Carnegie’s local libraries in New Jersey and New York will also be discussed.

Registration is not required for this event and we hope that you can attend! You can learn more about this program on the Library’s events calendar.

We hope to see you soon!

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director
