The Fourth of July is officially behind us, but that doesn’t mean the Library is done commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. This month, and for the rest of the year, we’ll continue offering a host of great programs that explore our nation’s rich history– particularly the various riveting chapters in the fight for American independence.   

On Monday, July 13th at 7pm, you can join us for “From Rebellion to Independence: The Story of America’s Revolution.” This engaging and inspiring multimedia presentation by historian and photographer Mario Medici will trace the dramatic story of the American Revolution, beginning with the growing tensions between the colonies and Great Britain, and culminating in the Declaration of Independence. We’ll revisit events like the Boston Tea Party and the battles of Lexington and Concord, while highlighting the contributions of figures from George Washington to the many ordinary men and women whose courage shaped the revolutionary cause.

Later this year, you can look forward to more captivating lectures on topics like New Jersey’s “Revolutionary Rivalry” between Colonel Tye & Captain Joshua Huddy; Benedict Arnold’s traitorous plot to surrender West Point to the British; the archaeology of Revolutionary-era New Jersey; and understanding the US Constitution.

Finally, the most recent episode of our “L-Town Radio” podcast tells the sensational history of The Horseneck Riots. These incendiary incidents, which occurred decades before the Revolutionary War and involved residents of present-day Livingston, helped light the fuse on the powder keg of rebellion that would eventually explode in 1776.
