Message From the Director: Explore the Paintings of Winslow Homer

Livingston Library Community,

Winslow Homer was a 19th century American artist whose watercolor and oil painting depicted joyous scenes of fashionable women along the shore and children frolicking in meadows, contrasting against his other paintings showcasing the forces of nature coupled with ships at sea and scenes of isolation and conflict.

If you are interested in exploring the work of Homer, we invite you to join us at the Livingston Library on Monday, June 20th at 7pm for the art talk Winslow Homer: American Vision Close to Nature. During this talk you will become acquainted with the paintings of Homer and be given an introduction to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection Winslow Homer: Crosscurrents that is currently available to view until July 31, 2022. Registration is not required for this event and all are welcome to attend.

If this exploration into the work of Homer inspires you, we also invite you to drop-in to the Library’s Crafternoon program on Thursday, June 30th at 12pm. During Crafternoon, adults are invited to join us in the Adult Seating area between the hours of 12pm and 2pm to make a quick and fun craft. Registration is not required for Crafternoon.  You can learn more about Crafternoon here.

If you’re looking for more ways to get creative this summer, we also invite you to come and browse our print crafting collection as well as explore the Library’s online subscription to Creativebug which offers Livingston cardholders online crafting classes and tutorials, as well as diy inspiration, patterns, and instructions.

We hope to see you at the library!

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director
