Message From the Director: Fly Me to the Moon with a Universe of Stories

It’s that time of the year again, where lazy pool days, beach trips, and summer barbecues fill our days. It’s also time for Summer Reading!  We are super excited to announce that our 2019 Summer Reading Program registration has opened, with the program officially beginning on June 24. No matter what your age, the Library has a Summer Reading program for you!

The Adult Summer Reading Program will run for six weeks from June 24 until August 5, where every Adult or Y.A. item checked out earns you a raffle ticket entry towards a weekly prize.   Two winners will be chosen for the Grand Prize of a new Kindle E-reader. The more you read, the more chances you’ll get to win!

The children’s Summer Reading Challenge for grades K-5 and the Read to Me! Program for children 4 and under are run the same as last year – log the time read, complete challenges & earn prizes!  There are four levels to complete at your own pace, throughout the 7 weeks of the program and each level completed earns the reader a ticket into the Grand Prize Raffle.  Our Youth Services Department has so many exciting programs planned this year from from a visit with the Pearl Observatory Planetarium, to a dazzling show Sciencetellers Present: “Aliens Escape from Earth,”  and so much more!

The Teen Summer Game is an exciting online adventure. Kids entering grades 6-12 read books, complete challenges, solve perplexing puzzles, all while earning points to redeem for prizes.

You can sign up for Adult Summer Reading either online or in person at our Patron Services Desk. Babies and children through grade 5 can register for the Summer Reading Challenge.and the Teen Summer Game is entirely online.  The best part? Everyone who signs up gets a prize. All readers are winners!

A special thanks goes to our Friends of the Livingston Library for the generous funding they provide in support of all our summer programs.

We can’t wait to see you at the library this summer!

~Amy Babcock-Landry, Director
