Message From the Director: Explore Jewish New York

Livingston Library Community, 

We invite you to join us in the Library’s program room on Monday, December 12th at 7pm to explore the history and culture of “Jewish New York.” This illustrated lecture presented by storyteller and historian Marty Schneit will take you on a journey, uncovering how Jewish America began in New York. 

Schneit will cover topics such as Brownsville Girls, Shearith Israel, Temple Emanuel, Jews of Brighton Beach, Eldridge Street Synagogue, Rebbe Schneerson, Washington Heights (Frankfurt on the Hudson), Zabars, the egg cream, and Henny Youngman (just to name a few!). He will also discuss how the Jewish people of New York pioneered the rise of the garment industry, which had a worldwide impact on the fashion industry. 

Registration is not required for this event and all are welcome to attend.

  1. I was not able to come to the program, but wondered if you had recorded it. If you have, I would love to see/ hear it!
