Message From the Director: Discover the Story of Opera

“Opera is the ultimate art form. It has singing and music and drama and dance and emotion and story.” -Diane Paulus

Livingston Library Community,

Formed around the year 1600, Opera quickly became a popular form of entertainment throughout the world, and is still one that many enjoy today.  The Livingston Public Library is pleased to take you on a journey of opera throughout the ages in the 3 part program series The Story of Opera, presented by conductor and music educator, Dr. Robert W. Butts.

During this series, attendees will enjoy both musical selections and commentary as well as explore how opera has evolved over the centuries. The first part of this program series will take place on Monday, May 24th at 7pm, and will cover Early Opera from the 1600s – 1800s. The second part of this series will take place on Monday, June 21st at 7pm and will cover Romantic Opera from 1800-1890.  The third part of this series will take place on Monday, July 13th at 7pm and will cover Verismo and Modern Opera: 1890-2000

These events are open to all, and you are welcome to attend, but not required, to attend them all.  Registration for these programs can be done through the Library’s event calendar.  You must register for each session separately.  Information on how to access the Zoom meeting will be emailed to you the day before the program is to take place.

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director
