Livingston Library Community,

March marks Women’s History Month, and this month the library has lectures planned to celebrate the legacies of notable women from America’s history.

On Thursday, March 21st at 7pm we invite you to join us virtually on Zoom for the lecture Barbie and Ruth: The History of America’s Most Famous Doll and Her Creator. During this lecture, historian Leslie Goddard  will take us on a journey back to 1959 as we discover the remarkable true story of the world’s most famous doll and the woman who created her.  During this lecture we will learn what inspired Ruth Handler to develop Barbie, how Barbie helped make Mattel one of the world’s most successful toy companies, and what Barbie’s impact has been on American culture. Registration is required for this event. An email with the zoom link will be sent to those registered the day before the program is to take place.

We invite you to join us once again on Monday, March 25th at 7pm in the Library’s program room for the lecture Women of New York. During this lecture, speaker Marty Schneit will detail the history of women who made significant contributions to New York and the world at large at a time in United States history when full equality for women was not yet recognized. Remarkable women such as Rose Schneiderman, Emma Lazarus, Jane Jacobs, Gertrude Vanderbilt,  Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Henrietta Szold, and others will be discussed. Registration is not required for this event and all are welcome to attend.

We hope to see you at one of these lectures!

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director
