Message from the Director: Celebrate Pride and Juneteenth at the Ltown Library!

Livingston Library Community,

June is a month for celebration! This month the Livingston Public Library is celebrating Pride month and Juneteenth with events planned for all ages.

In celebration of Pride, the Library invites Adults to join us for a lecture on Famous LGBTQ+ Artists on Monday, June 13th at 7pm. During this event, art educator and historian Suzanne Altman will be joining us to discuss the extraordinary contributions of the artworld from LGBTQ+ renaissance artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michaelangelo,  to present day artists such as David Hockney, Bradford Delauney, and Catherine Opie.

The Library is also excited to partner with Shiv’s Third Eye and other local organizations for a Celebration of LGBTQ+ Youth at the gazebo tonight at 5pm.  There will be music, peer story sharing, a library craft, informational handouts, and lots of fun! Families will also be able to continue to enjoy Pride themed book displays in the Youth Services room throughout the month. Children enjoyed a Take-Home Pride Craft this past week.

On Wednesday, June 15th at 6:30pm, families are invited to join us in the Library’s storytime room and Children’s terrace for a Juneteenth Celebration! Local Montclair author, Alliah Agostini will be reading her children’s book “The Juneteenth Story” followed by a celebration including red velvet cakes and strawberry lemonade! Children will also be able participate in a Take-Home Juneteenth Windsock Craft from June 13th – 16th. The library will be closed on Friday, June 17th in celebration of Juneteenth.

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director
