Message from the Director: Celebrate Native American Heritage Month at the Livingston Library

Livingston Library Community,

Born in 1940, Juane Quick-to-See Smith was a Native American artist whose work addresses the myths of her ancestors as well as current issues facing Native Americans today. This November, in honor of Native American Heritage Month, we invite you to join us in the Library’s program room on Monday, November 14th at 7pm, where Janet Mandel will lead the talk “Jaune Quick-to-See Smith: The Sacred and the Profane, the Diving and the Witty.”

This lecture will also prepare attendees for Smith’s first retrospective opening in the Whitney Museum scheduled for April 19, 2023. Entitled “Memory Map,” this curation will bring together nearly five decades of Smith’s drawings, paintings, and sculptures. It is the largest and most comprehensive showing of her work to date.

Registration is not required for this event and all are welcome to attend. We hope to see you there!

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director
