Message From the Director: Baithak @ the Library

Dear Livingston Library Community,

The Library is thrilled to welcome Livingston’s own, Baithak, for a reading of Rabindranath Tagore’s Home and the World on Sunday, March 10th.  Baithak is a group of six South Asian women who have joined together in their common love Baithakof South Asian prose and poetry.  South Asian literature is rich in thought and content and it is Baithak’s intention to bring these literary gems to its audiences in the form of storytelling.

Rabindranath Tagore was a writer, poet and music composer from India’s eastern state of Bengal.  A literary giant who influenced the Indian literary landscape in the late 19th – early 20th century, he was the first non-European to be awarded the Nobel Prize in literature.

Tagore’s novel Home and the World is set in early twentieth century’s British India, and deals with themes of love and union, role of women and tradition versus modernism, all in the context of India’s freedom struggle.

The seating begins at 1:45 PM and the reading will begin promptly at 2:00 PM.

All the best,
Amy
