Livingston Library: A Book Sanctuary

book sanctuary

Over the past year, the American Library Association has documented 4,240 book titles that were targeted for censorship. In response against book banning and censorship, the Livingston Public Library Board of Trustees have passed a resolution adopting the American Library Association’s “Freedom to Read” statement and declaring the Livingston Public Library as a Book Sanctuary.

As a Book Sanctuary, the Livingston Library is a place where:

  1. People can borrow and read challenged books
  2. Endangered books are accessible to everyone
  3. The Library hosts book talks, storytimes, and other events about banned and challenged books
  4. People can be educated about the history of book banning and burning

You can read the Livingston Public Library’s Resolution 24-05 on the Library’s website, here.

We are proud to be a library where everyone is welcome and encouraged to exercise their right to read, express ideas, and be their most authentic version of themselves.
