Do you have a lot of children coming to visit for the holidays and don’t have anything to amuse them? We’ve got you covered. Print out a few copies of the attached snowflake template at the bottom of this page, grab some scissors, and create beautiful symmetrical snowflakes!

Visitors to the library made use of a version of this template during our Snowflake Mobile event on December 13. At the beginning of the event, we discussed the water cycle, talked about famous snowflake photographer Wilson Bentley, watched a video of snowflake researcher Dr. Libbrecht discussing how he “grows” his own snowflakes in his lab, and talked about what symmetrical means. Children then created a number of snowflakes using the template, colored them in, and then hung them from wooden dowels. The result was a beautiful blizzard of epic proportions right in the library!
