Message from the Director: Honoring Our Veterans

DirectorAmy.jpg

Dear Livingston Library Community,

Visitors to our library may have noticed, on permanent display, a scale model of the battleship U.S.S. Arizona, which went down with more than 1,100 Navy personnel during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, marking our entry into World War II.  A relic from the ship itself and photographs are also part of this display. These items were donated, many years ago, by the late Tom Mahoney, a U.S. Navy veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor, to Temple Beth Shalom, which hosts Livingston’s annual Veterans Day ceremony.  The items are on permanent loan to the Library, for display throughout the year, except on Veterans Day, when they are returned to the Temple for display at the annual ceremony.

This year’s Veterans Day program will take place at Temple Beth Shalom, on East Mount Pleasant Avenue, on Sunday morning, November 11. The ceremony, which is held in Founders Hall, honors all our military veterans from Livingston and the surrounding area. It will begin at 11:00 AM — 100 years to the minute after the Armistice that ended the First World War.  All members of the community are cordially invited.
All the best,
Amy
