Friends of the Livingston Library Seeks Donations for its Beach Books & Bling Sale

Friends of the Livingston Library is seeking donations of jewelry from the public from November 1 through May 15, 2025. Donated jewelry will be sold during the Friends Beach Books & Bling Sale which will take place at the Livingston Library in June. Friends Board Treasurer Teresa Allard who co-manages the sale explains, “With our BookFEST! Sale over we are already preparing for our summer sale! Through mid-May, a special box will be set up in the Library lobby for the collection of jewelry. We are planning to continue the practice started last year of offering higher-end jewelry items at great prices in addition to our amazing priced ‘bling’ so whether members of the community have costume jewelry they no longer wear or fine jewelry for which they want to find a new home, we are the place for donations.” All items should be in saleable condition. Friends is not able to sell, re-donate, or otherwise able to re-direct certain materials. Disposing of these items increases recycling costs and absorbs limited volunteer time so Friends hopes the public will abide by the guidelines. Since the sale will not feature personal wear accessories, watches, and household bric-a-brac, Friends is unable to accept such items for donation.

Donations of books, puzzles, games, and vintage ephemera for the book portion of the sale are welcome all year round. Anytime the Library is open, members of the community may drop off items in the Friends Book Donation Bin in the lobby. Patrons are asked to limit book donations to 30 books at any given time, however, arrangements can be made with Friends for larger donations. Friends appreciates the donation of gently used books in all categories, games, puzzles, CDs, DVDs, and audio books on CD. Friends also asks that people arrange for private disposal of books in poor condition, contemporary magazines, VHS tapes, encyclopedias, text books below college level, and text books more than 10 years old. Friends does accept college and graduate level text books that have been published within the last ten years.

Staff at the Library Patron Services Desk can provide a tax receipt for donations.

Allard explains that during the Beach Books & Bling Sale, which is scheduled for Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June, 15, 2025. The Library Program Room will house several tables devoted to the donated jewelry and thousands of adult fiction books and books for children, ideal for summer reading. The Sale will also have a table of games and puzzles.
