Feminist Fare: Join the Discussion!

“You can judge a nation, and how successful it will be, based on how it treats its women and its girls.”  ~President Obama

How does our society treat its women and its girls?  What does gender equality mean? Are the laws that govern us fair?  These are the ideas that spark discussion in our Feminist Fare Book Club.  Run by Susan Muntz, the Head of the Technical Services Department of the Livingston Library, the group meets once a month on Thursday mornings at 11:00 AM.

“The power of story allows us to explore areas and ideas and helps us to potentially look at things from a different perspective,” explains Susan.  She has enjoyed the diverse group of readers that participate in the lively discussions.

The group has read memoirs of historical women and women in current events today, and both non-fiction and fiction titles.  When choosing a book, the focus isn’t always ‘feminism’ but more about strong characters, both women and men, that embody feminist characteristics.

Susan encourages you to join the discussion at the next Feminist Fare Book Club meeting on May 9.  Copies of the next book, Good and Mad by Rebecca Traister are at our circulation desk, ready for you to dive in.  Pick one up today!
