February was full of wonderful adult programs! Below is a quick recap of what events we enjoyed at the Library.
We hosted a variety of enlightening lectures last month, from “A Look at Black HIstory Through Jazz,” to “The Dark Side of the White House: Scandals and Tragedies in US Presidential History,” to the virtual presentation, “Quirky Landmarks: The Curious History of America’s Roadside Attractions.”
Aspiring chefs enjoyed our cookie decorating workshop, as well as several virtual classes with Library Chef: “Sourdough Basics: Easy Sourdough Flatbread,” “Seared Scallops Over Creamy Polenta,” and “$10 Meal Challenge.” Adults also enjoyed participating in our take home “Spice it Up” kit, where they received lavender.
We explored our creative side this month with the “Collage Blooms: Floral Art” workshop for adults, and our monthly “Crafternoon,” where we made sock snowmen.
Our Let’s Talk About Books book club met to discuss “Heartwood” by Amity Gaige, while our Thrilling Tales book club discussed “Girls with Bright Futures” by Tracy Dobmeier.
We offered a number of health and wellness programs, including our monthly “Open Flow Vinyasa Yoga” workshop, and one of our new “Total Body Mat Pilates Sculpt” sessions for adults. We also hosted Dr. Yu Ma Htwe of RWJ Barnabas Health for “Understanding Lung Cancer: An Overview and the Role of Robotic Bronchoscopy.”
Our monthly film screenings in the Library’s program room included our Tuesday Night Movie, Roofman, and Wicked: For Good, during our Thursday and Saturday matinees. For our February Senior Happening, attendees were treated with a screening of Unfinished Song. Following Senior Happening, seniors received technology assistance with teen tutors through our Community Tech Helpers program.
We welcomed author Dr. Shrenik Shah to discuss his book, Practical Spiritual Life: Spirituality in Day-to-Day Life. We also enjoyed virtual author talks with the Library Speakers Consortium including “Mojos, Mermaids, Medicine, and 400 Years of Black Women’s Magic with Dr. Lindsey Stewart,” “Smithson’s Gamble: The Incredible History Behind the World’s Largest Museum with Smithsonian Curator Emeritus Tom Crouch,” and “Swashbuckling Heroines and High Seas Adventures with Novelist Vanessa Riley.”
