Enjoy a Taste of Senior Happening From Home with Fred Miller’s “The Golden Age of Operetta”

Did you miss this November’s IN-PERSON Senior Happening performance? We have good news! You can also enjoy Fred Miller’s Lecture-In-Song Performance “The Golden Age of Operetta” from the comfort of your own home!

America’s cultural roots lie deeply in European soil, and this most definitely includes the glories of American Popular Song in its twentieth century heyday. Before Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, Kern, Rodgers, Hammerstein & Co., there was European Operetta filling the theatres of all the great continental capitals. From Vienna, the Strausses and Lehar; from Paris, Offenbach; from London, Gilbert & Sullivan: exotic locales, derring-do drama, gorgeously lush melodies, romance, sentiment & color at fever pitch.

Mr. Miller is the founder of the Copper Penny Players, a singing class for amateurs that has been operating for the past quarter century. He has experience in many different musical fields, including opera, comedy and piano music. There are now more than seventy Lecture-in-Song programs that he performs around New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

You can view Fred Miller’s recorded performance below through December 19th!

Our IN-PERSON December Senior Happening will be taking place at the Livingston Public Library on Friday, December 17th at 1pm, where Brad Ziffer will present “Holiday Song Sing-A-Long.” Registration is required and may be done in person at the library; by telephone at (973) 992-4600; or online here. Livingston residents may register starting November 29th and other Essex County residents may register starting December 13th.

Senior Happening is made possible in part by funds from the Essex County Division of Cultural Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and through the support from the Friends of the Livingston Library.
