ELL Tutoring and Classes offered to Livingston Residents at Livingston Public Library:

1. Small Group Casual Conversation:

Program created for English Language Learners interested in practicing speaking, listening, and reading everyday English with a volunteer tutor.

  • Conversation Group sessions are offered in two sessions. September through December and January through June.

  • Students meet once a week for one hour. Generally there are two students with one tutor. Meeting times are arranged mutually with students and tutors.

3. Paragraph Writing Workshop:

Program created for English Language Learners with a proficient understanding of the English language that want to improve their writing and reading English skills. Students should have a proficient ability to write grammatically correct sentences.

  • Grammar workshops are offered five times a year in six week sessions. September-October, November-December, January-February, March-April, and May-June.

 
  • Students meet once a week on Tuesdays from 1-2pm in a library classroom with a trained facilitator.

2. Basic English Grammar Workshop:

Program created for English Language Learners with a proficient understanding of the English language that want to improve their writing and reading English skills.

  • Students meet once a week on Wednesdays from 1-2pm in a library classroom with a trained facilitator.

4. English Language Learner Virtual Book Club:

Program created for English Language Learners with proficient reading, writing, and speaking English skills that would like to develop a more nuanced understanding of written English in novel form. Registration required below.

  • Virtual Book Clubs are offered approximately five times a year in five-eight week sessions. September-October, November-December, January-February, March-April, and May-June.

  • Students meet once a week on Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm through a Livingston Public Library Zoom classroom with a trained facilitator.

Volunteer Tutors Needed!

Tutors work with English Language Learners in a small group setting one hour a week

  • All sessions take place in the common areas at The Livingston Public Library 
  • All learning materials are prepared in advance
  • The specific day and time of the session is arranged between the tutor and students.
  • Tutors do not need teaching experience, foreign language skills or Livingston residency
