December Monthly Display

For the month of December, the Livingston Public Library is showcasing the wonderful artistic talent of Livingston based artist and art teacher Barbara Sax.

She has worked for over 40 years in the public schools in Roseland, Livingston and Maplewood and teaches privately in both NJ and Florida.

She is currently a staff member for Livingston Youth and Community Services (LYCS) IMG_5520as well as a member and current president of the Arts Council of Livingston (ACL).

On display are a variety of stunning pieces created by Barbara, predominantly with acrylic paint or alcohol ink.

The eye catching  canvases are painted using an abstract acrylic flow process which involves mixing, applying and manipulating paint to flow across the canvas to create bold and intricate patterns.

The exquisite vases on display have been created with a similar poured technique.   Run off paint is collected onto non-porous sheets to dry. The dried paint skins are used with additional materials to create jewelry and as collage materials.

Some of the charming tree ornaments and ceramic tiles on display have been created with acrylic paint and others with alcohol ink, a type of hybrid medium with the vibrancy of ink and the translucent fluidity of watercolor.  “Its very diverse qualities lends it to many types of applications and can be used on most non-porous surfaces” says Barbara.
