Come see two great films on our big screen this month! On Saturday May 18 at 1:30 PM is Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest. Based on Martin Amis’ 2014 novel, this film tells the story of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel) and his wife Hedwig (Sandra Hüller) striving to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.

The Zone of Interest won the awards for Best International Feature and Best Sound at this year’s Oscars, where it was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film is rated PG-13, and runs 1 hour & 45 minutes. It will be screened in German with English subtitles.

Then on Tuesday May 21st at 6:30 PM, and Thursday May 23rd at 2 PM, we’ll be screening Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Strangers.

Based on the 1987 novel Strangers by Taichi Yamada, the film tells the story of Adam (Andrew Scott), a screenwriter living in a near-empty tower block in contemporary London. One night, Adam has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbor Harry (Paul Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up, and the childhood home where his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) appear to be living, just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.

All of Us Strangers won seven awards at the 2023 British Independent Film Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Performance (Paul Mescal), Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. This film is rated R, and runs 1 hour & 45 minutes. It will be screened with English subtitles for the hard of hearing.

All three screenings are free and open to the public, with no registration required. Free popcorn will be served (while supplies last). Doors open 30 minutes before showtime.
