coming attractions

This month, we’re showing two critically acclaimed films on the big screen in our program room. First, on Tuesday, June 18 at 6:30 PM, we’ll be screening Kelly Reichardt’s Showing UpIn this film, a sculptor (Michelle Williams) preparing to open a new show tries to work amidst the daily dramas of family and friends. A vibrant and captivatingly funny portrait of art & craft with an endearing and charismatic ensemble cast including André Benjamin and Oscar-nominated actors Hong Chau and Judd Hirsch.

Showing Up was named one of the Top 10 Independent Films of 2023 by the National Board of Review. It also won the Robert Altman Award for Best Ensemble Casting at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, and was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is rated R, and runs 1 hour & 50 minutes. It will be screened with English subtitles for the hard of hearing.

Then on Thursday, June 20 at 2 PM, and again on Saturday, June 29th at 1:30 PM, we’re screening Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall. When her husband is mysteriously murdered, doting wife and mother Sandra Voyter (Sandra Hüller) becomes the prime suspect. To complicate the situation, the sole witness to her husband’s untimely demise is her blind son (Milo Machado-Graner). Sandra must then face the consequences of keeping secrets as she contends with her husband’s murder trial, all while her innocent son must choose between family loyalty and the truth.

Anatomy of a Fall won the Best Original Screenplay award at this year’s Oscars, and was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Editing. It also won the Palme d’Or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. This film is rated R, and runs 2 hours & 30 minutes. It will be screened in French and English, with English subtitles for the hard of hearing.

Both screenings are free and open to the public, with no registration required. Free popcorn will be served (while supplies last). Doors open 30 minutes before showtime.
