Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Library has marked the occasion with a display of books on the topic.

Breast cancer is one of the most common kinds of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 womenIMG_0588.jpg born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point.   According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, each year approximately 2,190 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 410 will die. The good news is that most women and men can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early.

 The display includes medical literature, memoirs and first-hand accounts from survivors, and some fiction.
