Bookish Pet Peeves

From folding down the corners of a cherished novel to proclaiming that the movie was “so much better” than the book (it rarely ever is), there’s a whole slew of bookish pet peeves out there lurking, ready to annoy and irk readers everywhere. We often discuss our reading habits, but what about the habits we avoid?

Library Readers, what are your bookish pet peeves?

Here’s what a sampling of what the Livingston Public Library Librarians have to say:

  • Katie, Head of Adult Services: When I get to the end of the book and it’s not a stand alone novel.
  • Jessica, Adult Services: When background noise from television, music, or talking interferes with my reading.
  • Joseph, Adult Services: When the book is hard to keep open.
  • Gina, Youth Services: When the corners are bent.  Don’t bend the corners! Also, when I’m in a doctor’s office and others assume I am not doing anything and attempt to create small talk.
