Message from the Director: Be an #Upstander

Dear Livingston Library Community,

DirectorAmyB.jpeg

Have you been following the amazing wave of activism sweeping the youth of our nation?  Here at the Library we’re thrilled to see the next generation speaking out, loud and proud.  We invite the children of our community to two #Upstanders festivals: The Fierce Flags Fly Art Making Workshop will be held on Friday April 27, from 3 to 5 PM, for teens and tweens in grades 5 through 12, and the #Upstanders Festival for children grades one through 8, will take place on Saturday, April 28 from 1 to 4 PM.

Monica Montgomery, the charismatic educator, activist, and the founding director of the Museum of Impact in New York, describes these workshops as “social justice extravaganzas.”  She encourages the budding activists and artists of Livingston to come to Fierce Flags Fly to  “make art and build power with a healthy curiosity of understanding activism and the role you can play.”  In the #Upstanders Festival, Monica says, children will “discover avenues to action and express themselves through art-making, songs, games and creative crafts.”

These #Upstanders events are the first youth-oriented programs in Livingston Listens, our innovative multi-part series on inclusion, representation, and social justice.  No reservations are necessary. The program is free and open to all.

We can’t wait to see those flags fly!  And remember, at Livingston Library we help you give your children the world.

All the best,

Amy
