America at War: 1941-1945

On Thursday, September 5 at 7pm the Livingston Public Library will be hosting a lecture, America at at War: 1941-1945 presented by Professor James Kane.

It was, at the time, the largest Naval attack force ever assembled  – thirty three ships including six carriers and 350 attack aircrafts, a battleship, two cruisers, destroyer escorts, oil tankers and its own submarine squadron.  And at dawn on December 7, 1941, a tropical Sunday morning, the carriers came into the wind two hundred miles north of the Island of Oahu and launched an attack on Pearl Harbor and military airstrips across the Island.

The attack left chaos in its wake. It damaged much of the Pacific fleet, sank four US battleships, killed twenty-four hundred Americans – including 1,177 on the USS Arizona, and plunged America into World War II.  This program covers that attack and the forty-four blazing months which followed. It will also cover the War in the Pacific, the home front, the D-Day landings at Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, the flag raisers of Iwo Jima, and the final surrender in Tokyo Bay on Sept 2, 1945.

Registration is not required and all are invited to attend.  For more information, check out our calendar here.
