Books That Have Made You Cry

Books have the power to make us think, to make us see, and to allow us to experience the world without actually leaving our favorite reading chair. What’s even more amazing is that books allow us to feel, as we become invested in the lives and stories of the characters.  These emotions and feelings for those in the book can be incredibly real and may even make you reach for a tissue once or twice throughout the novel.  Today we’d like to ask.  Has a book ever made you reach for the closest tissue box and cry?  And if so, what was it?   Here is what a sampling of Livingston Public Library staff have to say: (These reads are available through our digital collections!) Jessica: I remember that when I read All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover I sobbed uncontrollably alone in my room. Archana: The Kite Runner by Jhumpa Lahiri also made me emotional. Joe: I cried more than once while reading Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. Katie: I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle MacNamara and Gillian Flynn -Jessica, Adult Services Librarian
